Are you ready for more Spirit Island? Of course you are! And we're thrilled to announce that the first expansion content for Spirit Island arrives next Wednesday, September 30th in the form of Promo Pack 1. Visit Steam now to add it to your Wishlist and be notified when it's available!
2 New Spirits
This Promo Pack brings Serpent Slumbering Beneath the Island and Heart of the Wildfire to the game, along with their associated innate power cards.
Serpent Slumbering Beneath the Island:
• Elemental Aegis • Gift of Flowing Power • Gift of Primordial Deeps • Absorb Essence
Next week (watch your email for a notification) Deluxe Edition backers will be able to log into your BackerKit dashboard to get your Steam key for the add-on.
For everyone else, Promo Pack 1 will sell for $2.99 (USD) on Steam.
What's Next?
We're happy to announce that we have officially started development on the Branch & Claw expansion. There's no release date to share just yet, but stay tuned to our Twitch channel for previews as development progresses.
We are also planning to bring Spirit Island to iOS and Android tablets (and potentially phones) by the end of the year.
Two more stretch goals earned from the crowdfunding campaign remain:
• Adversarial Appearance - Adversary-specific visuals for Invader pieces • Spirit Styles - Alternate artwork for each Spirit
Plus, we still owe Deluxe Edition backers an exclusive digital playmat. If you've enjoyed the customization options we added to Aeon's End, you might be looking forward to that!
We're also still considering several other major items for the future, including the Jagged Earth expansion and integrated online multiplayer.

Spirit Island has now reached version 1.0, and we couldn't have done it without you! So what features mark this milestone, and what's next for Spirit Island?
Thematic Map
Optional thematic maps are now available on the New Game screen. These maps represent the canonical Spirit Island, and prioritize theme more highly than the front “balanced” sides: land types cluster together, wet terrains tend to be on the windward side of mountains, etc.
The Thematic Map is intended for experienced players, both because finding terrains at a glance is harder with the more realistic art style, and because some of the changes make the game more difficult: more lands per board, clustered terrains, more starting Invaders, etc.
Card Library
Wondering what all the available Powers are, or what Fear cards might come up in a game? Visit the new Card Library screen to find out. It includes all of the cards in the game - Spirits and their unique Power cards, Major and Minor Power cards, Blight cards, Fear cards, Invader cards, Terror Level cards, Adversaries, and Scenarios. Remember, you can right click any card to view the full size with text and artwork!
Quick Play Improvements
Based on suggestions from players and designer Eric Reuss, we've updated the Quick Play feature with a couple of improvements. On Beginner experience level, it's the same as before - just one click to start a basic difficulty 0 game.
On Intermediate and Advanced experience levels, when you click Quick Play you will have the opportunity to choose a specific number of Spirits (or randomize) and a more granular difficulty range (or the default range for your experience level). All randomization in Quick Play is now done by difficulty range and can include thematic maps as well.
Achievements & Statistics
We've added 18 regular achievements to the game, along with a hidden achievement for those who attune themselves with the ways of the Island. Happy hunting!
Wins and losses are now tracked for each Spirit, Adversary, and Scenario. We're also keeping track of various other interesting data points. See how your progress in Spirit Island is going over time, and compare with the world!
For a complete list of other fixes and improvements, visit this Steam Update.
What's Next?
Spirit Island is officially released, but that doesn't mean we're going to stop working on it. We'll continue to fix bugs and make other improvements. Specifically we're planning to add more user interface improvements, visual effects, strategic planning features, and more!
We are planning to bring the game to mobile by the end of the year (at minimum to iPad and Android tablets).
Plus, there's still bonus content unlocked by the Indiegogo project to come: • Promo Spirits: Serpent Slumbering Beneath the Island & Heart of the Wildfire • Adversary-specific Invader appearance • Alternate terrain artwork • Alternate Spirit artwork
Promo Spirits will be available as DLC, or included for backers who got the Deluxe Edition. The other features will be included in every copy of the game on Steam.
Beyond this, we'd also love to bring Branch & Claw and online multiplayer to the game. The best way to do that is to sell as much Spirit Island as possible so tell your friends:
Spirit Island has arrived (And it's 15% off through launch week!)

The next major update to the game is now available on Steam with several new features we know you're gonna love!
The Redcoats are Coming!
The Kingdom of England is the final adversary in the core game and is now available.
Here is what the Kingdom of England is all about:
• Buildings, buildings, and more buildings - England sends so many immigrants that the colonies spill over into unexplored lands. It doesn’t start out fast, but constantly pushes its borders forward. They will push hard to found a capital during Stage II.
• England is notably easier for Spirits good at wrecking Towns (e.g. Lightning’s Swift Strike).
• This Adversary is notably harder for Spirits which rely on moving/killing Explorers to prevent Invader Builds (e.g. Shadows Flicker Like Flame).
Spirit Focus Mode
With multiple Spirits in one game, there can be a lot going on. So much so that it can be hard to even see the Island!
Now with Spirit Focus mode, you can zoom in on what a single Spirit is doing at a time, with the other Spirits still just a click away.
Spirit Focus mode is the default when you are playing a single Spirit, and is always available with any number of Spirits by clicking the +/- buttons in the corners of the screen.
There's even more going on version 0.7, including new music, features, and lots of bugfixes. Visit this Steam Update to see the whole list, or just fire up Steam, let the game update, and try it out yourself!
Retail Launch Coming Soon
The last content item we're working on for the Early Access period is the thematic map. Plus, stay tuned for additional big features like a card library screen, Steam achievements, and statistics. With the lion's share of this close to completion, we are pleased to announce:
Spirit Island will transition out of Early Access on Wednesday, July 29th!
What this means for you is that the core game will be "finished" and version 1.0 will be for sale to the general public. If you have already redeemed your Steam key, you are good to do, but if not, you can find your key on your BackerKit Dashboard.
Once 1.0 is released we'll be hard at work on the promo spirits, but we also want to know what you'd like to see next for Spirit Island. The 2 big unreached stretch goals during the campaign were online multiplayer, and the Branch and Claw expansion. Let us know in the comments what you'd like to see first!

If your pledge includes a copy of the game, you should have received an email from BackerKit with a link to your dashboard to claim your key. If you did not, you can recover your pledge directly here.
We’re keeping this update short and sweet because we know you all want to get to playing the game. Remember, you can send feedback directly in game, we also have a public Trello board where you can keep tabs on our development progress, and we welcome discussions on the Steam community forum & our Discord.
Today only happened because of your support - thank you, and go save the island!

We are pleased to announce that Spirit Island will release to Steam Early Access next Thursday, April 16th.
What is Early Access?
Steam Early Access is a great way to get the game in front of a wider audience, and get feedback from the general public to help us make Spirit Island the best game it can possibly be. A game in Early Access is under active development and it will be updated regularly. You can think of it as a step between Beta and Retail release. There will be bugs, and some content is currently not available, but the game is much further along than what you might see in a Public Beta (See Steam's Early Access FAQ for more).
The current version allows you to play full games with 1-4 Spirits. Most of the content of the core game of Spirit Island is implemented and playable: all Spirits, Power cards, Scenarios, and 2 Adversaries.
Over the next several months, we will continue to add features and content to the game ahead of its official retail launch later this year. Still to come:
• Interactive tutorial • More animations and visual effects • Extended music and sound effects • Card library screen • England adversary • Thematic island boards • Steam Achievements
One of the most important aspects of Early Access is hearing from you, the players. You can send feedback (suggestions or bug reports) directly in-game. We will directly respond to players who send feedback, and take all feedback into consideration during development. A public Trello board will be available to keep tabs on our development progress. And we welcome discussions on the Steam community forum & our Discord.
When can I start playing?
If your pledge includes a Steam Key for Spirit Island, you will receive an email from BackerKit letting you know when your key or keys become available. While you can redeem your key any time, the game won’t become playable until next Thursday, April 16th at the actual release.
While even this first release is already very playable and reasonably polished, we understand that some of you would prefer to wait until the official retail release to play the game. Just know that the keys you recieve this week via BackerKit will work to deliver your copy to you whenever you choose to redeem it.
Keep Spreading the Word!
We’re excited to get Spirit Island onto the digital tabletop, and we know you are too so tell your friends! They can add the game to their Steam wish list at any time to be notified when the game is available. We will even be offering a 15% discount for the first week! Your efforts in spreading the word led to enough pre-orders to achieve ALL stretch goals, so don’t let up now!
Without your support, this day may have never come, so thank you for all your efforts. In less than a week, you’ll be working with the Dahan to protect the island!
